Rules for the MLE Men’s Tennis Teams registered in the Peace River Men’s Tennis League

           New Players Coming into League.

1.    a) New players regardless of skill are encouraged to join the MLE league teams.  The new player must contact the league liaison and submit his request to start this process.

b) The liaison will coordinate the appropriate captains who will arrange an assessment of the skill level of the player and determine the proper team that he should be placed on.  It is recommended that the individual be registered at the team level below his assessed skill level to allow the individual to prove himself.

The optimum number of players on a team is 9. That can vary at the discretion of the team and captain.

New member may join the league until January 31st.

Calling up a Player to Avoid a Forfeit.

2.    When a team cannot provide a complete complement of six players for the up-coming match the lower ranked team will let the higher ranked team select from the player(s) that were not scheduled to play that week.  This would not interfere with lower ranked teams schedule of players.  If no one is available go to the next lower ranked team.  Any players playing up must play on court 3. Any decision requires the agreement of both captains.

3.    Movement of Players for Following Year:

By February 1st. team captains and co captains will survey their teams to determine if any players plan to drop out, or move up or down a level. If the team captain and co captain determine that changes in the makeup of their team will be required, they will notify the liaison.

a). It is recommended that players should be rated by the individual team members and the captain but the individual ratings must be kept confidential. This rating will be a tool to move players to different teams. It may be necessary to adjust the teams through the year because of sickness, etc

b). Any player interested in moving up or down a level will inform his captain and the liaison by February 15 with the exception of extenuating circumstances (i.e. sickness, injury, etc). He will then be considered by all the captains for this movement.

c). The captain and co captain of each team requiring additional players will accumulate information on each candidate and will make their decisions. The captain and co captain of the candidate’s team will give input regarding his league results, attitude, attendance and his willingness to help with extra duties expected of teams.

d). The higher team captain and co captain will observe the candidates to determine capabilities. Observations should be made during league play, ladders, tournaments, team practices, and casual play.

e). When the evaluation process has been completed, the liaison will call a meeting of all the captains and co captains during the 1st week in March. The candidate selection and new team make up will be presented for endorsement to the committee. Before the March General Meeting of all MLE Team Players the captains will notify candidates of their proposed team placement.

4.    The optimal number of players on the MLE men’s team is 9 players. Recommended all players will have equal playing time when available.

5.    MLE encourages players to wear matching outfits –Red and white.

6.    Team captains should be familiar with the “USTA” rules of tennis      and the “Peace River Rules of Conduct and Play”.  The liaison will ensure this.

7.     All team members must be members in good standing of the MLE    tennis club and a resident of the Maple Leaf Golf and Country Club.

8.    All members should attend all practices and it is recommended that they take lessons from the Pro on a weekly basis.

9.    The team captains will provide new tennis balls for the home matches and the cost will be shared by the team players.

10. The captains must attend all MLE captain’s meetings and it is recommended that co-captains attend also.

11. Captains will be elected by team vote.  The experience of being      team captain is educational and rewarding.  It is an experience that should be shared.  Captains will not remain in office longer than two consecutive years.  Each member of the team will have the opportunity to be captain before a player may repeat as captain on the same team.

12.  No captain shall have the authority over another captain or       another team.

13.  The success of all Maple Leaf Teams is of equal importance.

14.    Recommend all Peace River League players be given a copy or be aware of the rules and they be posted on the tennis bulletin boards.  It will be the responsibility of the Captains to insure this is done.

MAPLE LEAF WOMEN’S 50+ TENNIS

Process for Movement of a Player from One Level to Another

(for dissemination to all league players)

1. By February 1, team captains and co-captains will survey their teams to determine:

* if any players plan to drop out of league tennis for the following season

* if any players want to move up/down a level in team play, if a vacancy exists

* if players are satisfied with the current make up of their team

If the team captains and co-captains find that changes in the make up of their teams will be required for the following season, they will notify the liaison.

2. A meeting of all team captains and co-captains will be called. At that time changes, and the reasons for the changes on a team, will be shared with all captains and co-captains. They will then agree on the number of players for each future team and the shift(s) in movement that need to occur between/among the other teams.

3. Vacancies on teams will be shared with members of the teams affected by movement of players. Any team player interested in being considered for the vacancies will inform her captain, co-captain or liaison by February 15. The captain and co-captain of the team requiring changes will also inform the liaison by that date, if they want to consider a player who has not put forth her name to move to another level. The player must be a member of the Maple Leaf Tennis Club; may be a member of a lower level team; may be a member of a higher level team; may be a new player/resident at Maple Leaf Golf & Country Club.

4. Using the following criteria, the captain and co-captain of each team requiring additional player(s) will accumulate information on each candidate and will make their decisions.

· Captain and co-captain of the candidate’s team will give input regarding her:

i. League results

ii. Attitude

iii. Attendance at practices and lessons

iv. Willingness to help with extra duties expected of teams

The higher team captain and co-captain will observe candidate(s) to determine capability to play courts 2 and 3 at the higher level. Observations could be done during league play, ladders, tournaments, team practices, casual play.

If requested by candidate, captain or co-captain, ranking by team members is an optional method of evaluating candidate’s level of play within her team. If the ranking process is used, collation of results will be done by impartial persons. If any player on the ranked team requests her placement, she may receive that information from the collator.

5. When the evaluation process has been completed, the liaison will call a meeting of all captains and co-captains during the first week of March. The candidate selection(s) and new team make up will be presented for endorsement. The captain and/or co-captain will then, as soon as possible, notify candidates of their team placement.

Captains and co-captains unanimously adopted this document on March 6, 2008.

Amendment:

1. Any former 50+ team player who has been out of the league for one season and has not indicated her intention to return the following season, will no longer be considered a team member. She will need to follow the procedure in #3 of this document and will be treated as a new player. Captains will use the criteria in #4 and evaluate her as to her ability to play on a team. If a player has been out of the league for more than one season, she will also no longer be considered a team member. She will need to follow the procedure in #3 of the document and will be treated like a new player. Captains will use the criteria in #4 and evaluate her as to her ability to play on a team.
