In 1922, Day sold a large portion of land including reforested Alligator Hill for real estate development that was called Day Forest Estates. An 18-hole golf course was built, an air strip and clubhouse site were cleared, and access roads graded, building sites of sizable acreage was cleared. A small caddie shack was used as a clubhouse. Water for the greens was pumped from Lake Michigan to a water tower near hole 1. The venture started in 1927 but failed during the Depression, although the golf course operated until 1942.

Today, Alligator Hill can be hiked and the old fairways can still be figured out.

I have retyped an article about DH Day as it appeared in the Grand Rapids Press on December 21, 1911. DH Day

Scanned an old photo of the east side of Alligator Hill in 1930's. I believe it shows how the entrance road looked from M22 as it rose towards the clubhouse. Photo was taken from the Glen Lake Golf Club near Burdickville. Thanks to Barb Seipker.
